26/04 Botanical gardens, Sweden

On thursday morning, we visited the Botanical Garden of Lund at 10:30 am. An uncommon site in the center of this city, near Spyken High School. This place is a historical monument so we can’t do what we want here.

At the end of the XVIIth century, a university garden was created in Lund. At the beginning, it acted for medecine’s students. The Botanical Garden moved to its current location in the middle of the XIXth century. It was Jacob Agardh, a famous botanist who designed the greenhouses and the beautiful garden. Today, there are more than 7 000 species in 8 hectares in this place. It’s a very popular place where come lots of students from Lund’s universities.

Before being a very famous Garden, there were farms and fields. The Greenhouse and the small lack were built at first, with the help of the King (he gave money to build it). In this place, there was coal to warm the Greenhouse.

Here, a lot of weddings takes place because this place is very historical and beautiful.

There are several parts in this Garden like the « Rock Garden » or the « Greenhouse ». In the « Rock Garden », there are small plants which live in a windy atmosphere, in mountains, so we can see that there is every type of species here.
The « Greenhouse » is a very humid place where there is around 26 degrees. It’s a very tropical spot where you can find a lot of species like: animals, cactus, plants like orchids.

In Sweden lived a very famous botanist: Karl von Linné. He lived in the XVIIIth century and founded the binomial nomenclature. He classed a lot of species and said that plants having sex. At that time, the population weren’t agree with this vision because it was very provoked.
